Aircraft Manufacturers

Before starting, I must tell you something: there are houndreds of aircraft manufacturers all around the world and it would not be neccessary to make a reference of all these companies here... why? well, because somebody has already done this for us!... Wikipedia!!

Thanks to Wikipedia, we can find a huge list of aircraft manufacturers from A to Z (what you have to do is to type http://www.wikipedia.org on you browser, select the English version, and type "Aircraft Manufacturers" in the search box)

Anyway, we are interested here (for now) in the most important ones:

Boeing

This is currently the most important and the largest aircraft manufacturer in the whole world. This company is from the U.S.A and has its headquarters at Seattle, WA (U.S.A.)

Which aircrafts should be highlighted? All of them, but maybe it would be good to emphasize in the 707 (the aircraft that made Boeing reach the success at the very beginning), the noble 727, the versatile 737, the huge 747, the powerful 777, the beautiful 757 and the great 767.

If you want to know more about this company you can visit the headquarters, at Seattle, or you can take a deep look at the Boeing's website (http://www.boeing.com), where you will find abundant and specific information about its history, the aircrafts, and other business of the company besides the commercial airplanes (for example, Boeing is one of the companies that participated in the design and contruction of the fighter F-22 Raptor)

In adition, Boeing is expected to release a brand new aircraft, which is to be a revolution in the use of new technologies: the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (more information at the website www.newairplane.com)

Airbus

It is almost as big as Boeing. Actually, the commercial aircraft business is handled, at least most of it, by Boeing and Airbus. What is interesting with this company is that it does not belong to a specific country, but to many; Airbus is an industrial consortium from some european countries such as Spain and France.

From this company it would also be good to highlight some aircrafts such as the big A340, the versatile A320 and the A330 and, of course, the enormous (if this word is enough) A380 that is the biggest passenger aircraft ever built, with two complete decks.

As well as Boeing, Airbus has different business besides the commercial aircrafts: for instance, Airbus has created the A400, a "...versatile airlifter", "...intended for the rigours of the military transport role" (http://www.airbus.com) and the Beluga, a huge load carrier.

Embraer

It is the pride of South America, in the aircraft manufacture business, because it is actually the only one which compete with . Though this company is not as big and powerful as Boeing or Airbus, it has also an excellent and a stable market.

Embraer does have a Defense Systems division too, of which we could highlight the Super Tucano (one of the interesting characteristics of this aircraft is the presence of a turboprop engine; it is also interesting that this aircraft seems to be, according to Embraer, "...the only truly multi-purpose solution available on the market" (http://www.embraer.com)

Embraer has also its Excutive Jets business, which has nothing to envy to the rest of the companies.

Finally, it would be good to say que Embraer has built a winning formula: high quality with a top performance team, with low acquiring and maintenance costs, always aiming to "...specific market segments"(http://www.embraer.com)

Bombardier

Bombardier is from Canada. It would be good to say that this company is not only in the commercial aviation business, as well as the other ones above, but it goes beyond... for example, in the rail transportation and in the amphibious aircraft business.

It is interesting about Bombardier that this company is not focused on the huge aircraft market (as Boeing or Airbus), but on the regional and business ones.

Though Bombardier offers the C Series aircrafts, which are similar to the Boeing 737 family, this canadian company directs its efforts to the small and medium size planes (for example, the CRJ Series and the Q Series).

Finally, Bombardier has its own Defense Services, in which they offer training programs "in cooperation with the government" (http://www.bombardier.com)

REGULATIONS

This is maybe one of the most important things you have to keep in mind when working in aviation.

It is simple: anything onboard must be first approved by the corresponding authority, no matter if it is a single glass, or a couple of dishes... EVERYTHING MUST BE CERTIFIED!!
